Joe, The Prodigal Son Returns

As Ray Kettley is preparing for his 6 months trip away to Tassie and other places, I have put a few words together to go with the photos taken on the day that Frank will put on the Website.

There were 33 Ex-Boomerang/Gabba Squashies at the Lunch, Bob & Paul Finch, Mick Mulcahy, Richard Arnold, Dave Prickett, Bob Prickett, Ken Fraser, Bob McCormick, Joe Williams. Peters Creevey, Land & Morris, Joe McKenna, John Smerdon, Max Collins, Ray Kettley, Graham Field, Don Chilcott, Greg Baker, Mike Muirhead, Ron Bundell, Kev Mahoney, Alan Frost, Santo Coco, Doug White, Alan Griffiths, Keith Gargett, Tom & Jan Connor, Jacquie McConnell, John Green, Frank Brand, Wally Telford.

As far as I was concerned it was a wonderful day, I met some of those ex-Squashies at Boomerang way back in the very early 60's. It was great to see some of the Squash Mates of years ago greet each other after many years, and talk about the good memories they had at the clubs.

Griffo told a couple of grossly exaggerated tales about me, one story he told that was pretty close to the truth was a story about when Club Champion Ken Fraser used to get several free Squash Rackets from a supplier. And from time to time had a few spare rackets and he used to sell the odd racket to Alan much cheaper than he would have had to pay at shops. I overhead Ken say to Alan when he came in, that he had a racket in the car but it didn't have any strings in it, and I lent over and said "that wouldn't matter Ken, Griffo never used to use the strings anyhow", obviously the mob agreed with my statement as there was plenty of laughter when Griffo told the story.

I would like to thank everyone that organized my trip over to Brissy, especially Mike Muirhead and Keith Gargett and also Ray Smith and Ray Kettley for organizing both functions. I would also like to thank the many drivers I had up there that picked me up and took me to the different functions, among them were Alan & Di Eaton, Richard Arnold, Dave Prickett, Alan Frost, Santo Coco, Kev Baisden and Mike Muirhead.

One last thing, if Merv Carlyon's health had been better he would have been at Fishlovers with the rest of us. We are going to add a story about Merv in the Profile section of the site. It will be in there shortly as Merv is now in TriCare Nursing Centre, Mt Gravatt and his wife Noreen said he would love to have some visitors from his days as a Squash Club member at Boomerang and also as an Owner of the Acacia Ridge Squash Centre.
