Profile on Peter Prickett.
Peter was born in Brisbane in 1931 and was one of a family of seven sons and one daughter, all of whom where top sports people in various sports.
Pete started his working life at George Tait's Sports Store in Brisbane and worked there for many years where he learnt his lifelong craft of stringing racquets. He became one of the top exponents of his craft and strung racquets for most of the top Davis Cup and local players of his time. After working at Tait's for a few years, he met a new member of the staff , Noel Farthing, and they became great mates and worked together at the sports store until it was sold. Then they worked in the Public Service for a few years before opening their own Sports Store in Elizabeth Arcade which they operated for a few years.
Away from work Peter became one of the best tennis players in Queensland - he won many school boy titles and represented Queensland in the Junior Boys competition called the Linton Cup. Peter also represented Queensland as a player in the senior competition. Some of the players that Peter played with and against were Frank Sedgman, Ken McGregor, Mal Anderson, Rod Laver, Ken Fletcher, Roy Emerson, Frank Gorman, Jack Arkinstall, Barry Green, Ritchie Brandt, Nev Langford, Ian Ayre & Max Collins just to name a few.
Peter always regarded his Australian Consolation Singles Title as his best and most satisfying win, though he won many titles over the years including many doubles titles. Pete loved all sports and was a pretty good table tennis player and after he scaled down his tennis took up squash. He first played at Enoggera in the top grades there and later moved to Boomerang to play with a lot of his mates in the lower grades. He moved to the Gabba Club and played there until he retired at the end of the 1981/82 Summer Season.

Peter was a great bloke and had a wonderful easy going nature. As a sportsman there would never have been a fairer person that played sport, Pete was more likely to give a point away if he felt he had not earned it.
At one stage at the Boomerang Club there were four Prickett Brothers playing, Dave, Robert, Ron and Peter.
Pete was a regular "Under the Tree" and enjoyed a few social drinks after squash. Peter passed away suddenly in August 1994 whilst on a fishing trip to Moreton Island with a few of his mates.
