Sam and Avon Trimble, along with Brian Gaskell, were proprietors of the Gabba Squash Courts in 1975. The Boomerang Club moved to the Gabba because the Hope Street courts were being partly demolished to make way for the Railway Bridge to the city.

The Gaskell and Trimble Families ran the courts for several years until Sam bought out Brian. Sam & Avon then ran the courts until 1989 when the courts were taken over by the Cricket Ground Trust until the courts were demolished in the early nineties.

Below is listed the on and off court involvement of Sam, Avon and Glenn, at the Gabba Squash Club. There are also some records listed of both Sam and Glenn's Cricket careers.

Office Bearers



Sam was Vice Patron of the club 1976-1989. & Vice Captain in 1985.

Avon was Funds Raising Manager in 1983-1984 and Social Manager in 1984.

On the Courts



Avon was in the winning teams that won the Jack Lee Teams Incentive Trophy 4 times, the seasons and grades and her team mates are listed here:-

1976 Winter D3. Edna Sanford, Diane Rose, Pauline Amor, Gayle Gaskell.
1976-77 Summer D3. Joy Allan. Glenda Cox, Stephanie Phipps, Mary Patrick,
1981 Winter A3. Margaret Evans, Maree Kennedy, Renate Beck,
1984-85 Summer A2. Marilyn Brand, Lyn Brandon, Jenny Templeton.
Avon won the Sam and Brian's Personal Incentive trophy in the 1976-77 Season.

Col Brandon's Team incentive trophy was won by Sam in the 1981-82 Summer Season, the Grade was M7 and his team mates were Alan Bridge, Ray Williams, Brad Jordison, Graham Miers.

Sam won the Avon & Sam Personal Incentive Trophy in 1981.

1975 Glenn won the 6th Division Plate event (he was a very mature 12 year old).
1980 Glen also won the 4th Division of the Club Handicap Tournament; he was also successful in the 3rd Division of the Club Championships that year.
In 1981 and 1982 Glen won the Plate Event in the Open Club Handicap Tournament.
In 1984 he was runner up to Ray Kettley in the Open Club Championship event.

In 1976 Avon won the Ladies 4th Division event.
In 1984 Avon was runner up to Lyn Brandon in the Ladies Open Handicap Event.

In both 1982 & 1983 Sam won the 3rd Division of the Club Championships.

Avon won the 1976-77.Summer Ladies D3 Pennant her team mates were Joy Allan, Glenda Cox, Stephanie Phipps, Mary Patrick.
Avon was again successful in the 1980 Winter Season this time in A4 with Lesley McMillan, Maree Kennedy, Renate Beck.

Sam was in the winning Pennant Team in1981-82 Summer Season in M7. His Team mates were Alan Bridge, Ray Williams, Brad Jordison, and Graham Miers.

Glen had a win in 1980 C1, Team mates were Trevor Matthews, Darrell Burrows, Alan Hunter, and Gary Knott.

Cricket

Sam and Glenn both were top class cricketers and both played for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield Competition as it was known in those days & also against visiting touring teams.

Sam toured the the West Indies with the Australian Team in 1964-65, but never played for Australia as at that time Bob Simpson and Bill Lawry were a very successful opening pair. Sam was 12th man for one of the Tests in the West Indies. Sam did Captain an Australian 2nd Eleven Team to New Zealand during his career.

In 1970-71 playing for Queensland he scored 177 against an English attack which included John Snow & Peter Lever.

Sam finished his First Class career over 144 games with 10,282 runs with an average of 41.79 and a highest score of 252 not out. Until Stuart Law passed him in the late 90's, he was the leading run scorer for Queensland. Sam's First Class cricket career stretched from 1959-60 until 1975-76.

Glenn also played for Queensland, he played in 57 First class matches and 2 One day matches for Australia in 1985-86 against New Zealand under the captaincy of Allan Border.

In his First class career of 57 matches Glen scored 2881 runs at an average of 33.11 his highest score was 138 not out, he scored 4 centuries and 16 50's.

Glenn also bowled during his 1st Class career, he took 30 wickets, and his best bowling was 5/50, Glenn's First Class career was from 1982-83 to 1989-90.
