BRAGGING RIGHTS
Recently Peter Land and Joe Williams were talking on the phone
And talking about the Clubs Trophy & Teams lists that have been compiled by Ray for the Website. Peter was saying that he had a win over Frank Donnelly who later on went on to win an Australian Men’s Singles Squash Title.
Not to be outdone Joe said that he had been successful against two players that either won an Australian Title later in their Squash Careers. Or had already won an Australian Title. His first win was against a very young Mike Donnelly on the way up through the grades, and his other win was against Ted Anstee who won an Australian Men’s Squash Singles Title quite a few years before, Joe played against Ted in the Brisbane pennants. Mike won his title in 1976 and Ted’s win came in 1952.
Landie had another think and he remembered he had beaten Barry Green who the week before he played Peter had won the Australian Masters Squash Title. It looked like it was a draw, until Peter got a bit excited and said he had beaten another Australian Squash Champion, when Joe enquired who it was, Peter said it was Marion Jackman, who had won the Australian Ladies Squash Title; Marion had a few seasons in the Men’s A1 grade back in the 70’s.
Joe decided he couldn’t top that, so the conversation ended.
