THE CASH BOX

Ray Smith's Memories of one night under the famous Tree, in Paul's car park many years ago.

I remember one night many years ago quite a few of us had settled under the tree to quench our thirsts after Squash and Peter Creevey was looking after the cash box but for some reason he left early?? And left me with it.

I drank for some time with whoever was there and when everybody left, I did the same. I got home OK (I thought at the time that I was not in great condition to be driving). However, when I got home (in bed I think) I realized that I had left the bloody cash box on one of the fence posts at Paul's car park. Thinking it would not last too long if it was still sitting there in the morning, I got out of bed into the car again and back to Paul's car park. Yes the cash box was still there and so I headed back home. Don't remember much about the trip there or home to well but I must have made it there and back. When Pete Creev was told this story of Ray's, he laughed and recalled that more than once the same thing happened to him, but he either didn't realize till the next morning that he had left the cash box there, or he was not capable of driving back on the night, luckily each time it was still there when he eventually got back to the car park, the following day.
