CRISPO

There is already a story in the Profile section on Bill Crisp but its mainly about his time at the Squash Club, with a mention about his Cricket career. This story is mainly about Bill's cricket career, along with some photos of Bill in his cricket gear and also a football photo taken way back in 1949. Also in that football photo is another long standing member of the Boomerang/Gabba Squash club, his name is Don Chilcott. The last photo is a list of the names of the Pall Bearers at Crispo's funeral, Joe Williams was absent in Perth but there were five mates from his cricket days present - Ern Toovey, Greg Adam and Bunny Eastaughffe, Terry London and Pat Fitzgerald. The other Bearers were Pancho Cameron, and Moose McNamee who were workmates of Bill's.

The following has been taken from the Brisbane North's Cricket Site, it is mostly to do with Bill Crisp who was a long standing member of the Boomerang/Gabba Squash Club. Bill was also a life member of the Squash Club and as a lot of you would know Bill, was an A Grade cricketer with North's for many years.

"The early 50's saw the influx of several cricketers who were to play a major role in the Club's destiny over the pursuing two decades. Our current patron Ern Toovey MBE, OAM commenced an outstanding administrative and playing career with North's and he was joined by Bill Crisp, Greg Adam, Ray Lindwall, Ken Henderson and Rod Lyons.

These players formed the nucleus of a team which gradually improved its position until it succeeded in winning the A Grade premiership in 1955-56, only the 2nd in the Club's history. Regular members of the team which lost only one match during the course of the season were Ern Toovey (Captain), Bill Crisp, Ken Henderson, Rod Lyons, Greg Adam, Ray Lindwall, P Goodwin, Brian Flynn, T Pollard, G Patterson, J Troy and K Maloney. During the season Lindwall, Toovey, Lyons and Flynn represented Queensland.

In 65/66 Bill Crisp retired from the top grade in an 'A' Grade career spanning 13 seasons. He appeared in 156 matches and captured 324 wickets at a cost of 16.06 - the record number of wickets in the top grade at that time. He continued to play in reserve grade captaining it for several seasons and holds the record aggregate of 337 wickets in that grade, taking a total of 661 wickets for the club. Indeed this represents a magnificent contribution to our history.

Bill was awarded life membership of North's in 1968-69."
