AN HONOURABLE TEAM



This is a story about the members of a Boomerang successful premiership Men's B1 team in the 1972 winter season, the team members were Tom Clapham, Tom Connor, Greg Baker, Bob Finch & Merv Carlyon.

4 of the 5 team members later in life were awarded medals in The Australian Honours List. Tom Connor was awarded "Office of the Order of Australia" in 1999, Tom was also awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001 both medals were awarded to do with his work in the Engineering Field.

Greg Baker was awarded the "Centenary Medal" in 2001, for his long and distinguished career in the Public Service.

Merv Carlyon was awarded the "Australian Sports Medal " in 2000 for being a long time squash centre operator for 19 years, Manager of State Junior Squash teams, long time squash coach & the development of the largest squash club in Brisbane.

Bob Finch was also awarded the "Australian Sports Medal" in 2000 for his services to Squash, Bob was President of Squash Australia for 8 years, Hon Secretary for 6 years, Hon Treasurer for 3 years, & Executive Committee for 7 years.
