PENNANTS WON BY THE CLUB
Total of Pennants won by the Squash Club.
The total numbers of pennants that the club won over the years were 95 for the Men and 49 for the ladies. The effort by the Ladies was pretty good, as I remember in the early days of the Boomerang Club most of the seasons the girls only had about 1/3 the number of teams the men had, sometimes less than that, I am not sure how many teams the ladies had when the club moved to the Gabba.
The break up of wins were; 58 wins for the men and 26 wins for the ladies while the club played out of the Boomerang Courts, and 37 wins for the men and 23 for the ladies playing out of the Gabba Courts.
Maybe the club won a few more pennants before it closed down, the last season Ray has found records for was 1984-85 Summer Season, and at this stage until I here from Rod Hurst we are not really sure what season was the last for the club.
The club was successful in winning 2 Men’s A Grade State Teams Titles in 1976 and 1977, and the club also won the E Grade State Title in 1971.
Team members in the 1976 Team were Ray Kettley, Nic Jeffrey, Max Collins, Brian King, and Peter Land. Team members in the 1977 team were Ray Kettley, John Beck. Max Collins, John Smerdon, and Nic Jeffrey.
The members in the winning E Grade side in 1971 were Noel Messer, Geoff Gebhard, Doug Loveday, Jeff Seipel.
Over all the seasons the club was in existence the Men won 4 A1, 5 A2, 3 A3, and 2 A4 Pennants, the Ladies won
2 A1, 1 A2, 5 A3, and 3 A4 Pennants, the Ladies A1 Pennants were won after the Premier Grade had come into the competition. Not taking anything away from the girls that were in those A1 Teams, the standard of squash in that grade would have still been a very good standard.
