Some Trivia

Newer members must wonder what the older members are talking about at times, what's this Boomerang they talk about. And how come the Puntimal?

Our club commenced at the Boomerang Squash Courts in 1962, and we were known by that name until we were fortunate to transfer here at the Gabba in 1975, changing our name at the same time. The Puntimal? Our first editor Bob Finch originally called the magazine "The Baddawal Puntimal" loosely translated from an aboriginal dialect to "The Boomerang Message Stick". This was shortened to the present title.

When the Puntimal Story is completed, it will be added to the site at a later date. Ray has asked the editor of the puntamal at one time to compile a story about some of the articles that appeared in the puntamal and will be tacked on to this little start off story at a later date. I didn't know who he or she was way back then, when I was in the club and I am definitely none the wiser now 30 years down the track.

There was probably more than one editor over the years, as the article from the above 1977 edition says Bob Finch was the first editor, and Bob was transferred in his job with Australia Post well before the club was closed down.

Here are a couple of articles taken from the Puntimal October 1972 Edition.

We had a "Little" card from Joe Williams recently. He sends his regards to all. I have a sneaking suspicion that he has been drunk just once. The whole time! Anyhow he seems to be in high spirits.

Social News.

Don Chilcott is on holidays again, I'm convinced that guy has a friend looking after his time sheet, ever tried to ring him at work... Sorry, he is on holidays or sorry he has flexed off...or sorry he is sick...or sorry he is on the late shift...or sorry he is not in he must have a girlfriend somewhere.

The big Kid's Christmas party was held at the Cricketers Club, what a venue, and wasn't it a beauty, the Band was great, the food was great and the beer was cold, In fact the only thing which put a bit of a damper on the night was to have to listen to all those speeches by Alan Griffiths as he accepted yet another trophy. You'd think those old bushrangers would retire gracefully after they had carpeted every room at home with wall-to-wall Pennants. Actually the selectors have finally woken up to Griffo, they have noticed that he has been beaten yet again by a Girl, so next season he will find himself playing with, no for the C3 Ladies Team.
