TOM CONNOR GETS LUCKY
Tom Connor mentioned though he never won an A1 Pennant at Boomerang, he was successful in 1983 at Bardon. Tom was selected at No4 in the team, with 3 young kids as his team mates, they were all teenagers at the time. Their names were Chris Robertson, Rodney Martin and Rodney Eyles ( son of Bob "Ease Up" Eyles, who was a member of Boomerang for a few years, and was a very social club member and was a regular under the tree.
Tom's team mates improved greatly as the season went on, and on Grand Final night there was no need for Tom to play, as the three young blokes all won their matches.
These three players went on to be very successful on the Australian and World Squash Circuits: some of their achievements were as follows.
Chris Robertson won the World Junior Title in 1984, and in 1991 he reached his highest world ranking which was No 3.
Rodney Martin became World Champion in 1991, and was runner up in the British Open Title 5 times, 3 of those times to the World No 1 player for many years, his name was Jansher Khan.
Rodney Eyles won the World Title in 1997, and his highest world ranking was No 2, and like both Chris and Rodney Martin, he was a top ranked player in tournaments around the world for many years.
Not a bad team!
