KEN FRASER

Your Name.....Ken Fraser

DOB.....27/12/1944

Place of Birth.....Bowen Qld

Where you first started playing Squash.....Boomerang Squash Courts

Your Fondest Memory of the time.....The illegal gambling nights and parties at the club in the early days. I can still see the light fittings on the ceiling of the foyer jumping up and down from the people doing the stomp on the floor above. What a crazy dance. It was great.

Your best achievement on court, as most of us wouldn't have won Open Titles or represented the State, maybe list some of your Pennant wins or Club Titles.....

Won Boomerang/Gabba Club Championship 5 times and runner up 5 times between 1964 to 1974. Won the Club Handicap Championship 3 times in 1965/69/71. Won B6 Pennant in 1964 with Col Brandon Jnr, Santo Coco and Gary Thomas. Won B2 pennant 1968 and 1969 with Mal Stacey, Bob Ford, Noel Farthing and John Cameron. Won A2 pennant in 1968 and 1969 with Chris Whight, Wally Kwit, Brian King and Andrew Jones. After winning the A2 competition the whole team was accepted into the A1 competition. This was the first time it had happened, as far as we knew. We came in 5th. The next season Dave Prickett came in at No1 and Boomerang won its first A1 pennant. We won again in 1972 and 1973 the players in those teams were Dave Prickett , Brian King, Chris Whight, Wally Kwit, Bob Pareezer, Frank Brand, Peter Land and Ray Kettley.

In 1973 I played in the Queensland Team at No.4 in Perth. In 1971 and 1972 I was reserve in the team.

Won Wide Bay Bundaberg Championship 3 years in a row.

In 2003 and 2004 at 59 and 60 yrs old won two A1 Pennants at Hibiscus Gardens after not playing for 18 years.

Did you venture into administration or coaching or refereeing or managing teams or played Masters Squash.....

Ladder Secretary in 66 and 67 but Joe did all the work. Management Committee in 74 and 75 but was pretty useless really.

Runner-up in the Queensland Masters Titles 60 to 64 year age group in 2005 and 2006.

Who do you admire as the person who has either achieved great things on court or shaped the game off court.....

Geoff Hunt

Funniest moment you remember.....

At Gibson Park courts, two players complaining to the umpire about each other farting all the time. They were both blaming each other and both denying it. Neither of them knew about the tannery nearby and the umpire didn`t tell them.

What are you doing now. As a lot of us would be now retired, list some facts about your working life.....

Worked for State land Tax for 10 years then sold real estate for 25 years for Reg Strow Real Estate. Retired in December 1999.

Did you get married, have kids..... No.

Anything else you think people might find interesting.....

Played for 9 different clubs. Some of those moves were early on to play at No1 and then came back to Boomerang as a No1. The other moves were after Boomerang closed. The clubs in order were Boomerang, Kelvin Grove, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Corinda, Garden City, Hibiscus Gardens, Springwood, and QE11.

State Commercial High School Boys swimming champion and runner-up in Sub Junior year. Only about 20 boys in the whole school the rest were girls. When me and my mate arrived the first day we sure got a shock. We didn`t know it was mainly a girls school and our parents didn`t know. It worked out ok anyway. There were only 2 other boys in my class.
