JOE WILLIAMS

Your Name.....Joe Williams

DOB.....19/02/1938

Place of Birth.....Biloela Qld

Where you first started playing Squash.....Boomerang Squash Courts

Your Fondest Memory of the time.....Meeting some great people from all walks of life, and I still keep in touch with a lot of them.

Your best achievement on court, as most of us wouldn't have won Open Titles or represented the State, maybe list some of your Pennant wins or Club Titles.....

Won approximately 8 Pennants in the Brisbane Competition, from C2 to A3, and when I moved to Perth Won an A2 Pennant in the Perth Squash Competition. I never used to play in the Club Championships, as I preferred to organize the events rather than playing, though saying that, I did play in a few of the Handicap Tournaments at the club, winning 2 Club Handicaps in the early days and was also runner up one year to Ken Fraser. I also played Squash for Telecom in their Interstate Sporting Carnivals they used to hold, and was also successful in winning many Intrastate Telstra events in both Queensland and Western Australia over the years.

Did you venture into administration or coaching or refereeing or managing teams or played Masters Squash.....

No to all the above, except from the start of my squash career, I did get involved with the organizing side of the Club, mainly as Captain of Boomerang for about 20 Seasons.

Who do you admire as the person who has either achieved great things on court or shaped the game off court.....

There would be many, but Bob Finch comes to mind, as he was involved at the top level of Squash Administration , at all Levels, Club, Brisbane, Queensland, Australian and also the World Squash Association.

Funniest moment you remember.....

There were many funny moments; most of them happened down at the Coronation and Terminus Hotels or under the tree, or at some of the Squash Trips we went on over the years.

What are you doing now. As a lot of us would be now retired, list some facts about your working life.....

Virtually all my working life was spent with Telecom both in Brisbane and Perth, and I am now retired

Did you get married, have kids..... Nope to both questions.

Anything else you think people might find interesting.....

As most of you would know, a few of us have put together a Website for the Boomerang/Gabba Club, Frank Brand, Ray Kettley and many others have helped us achieve what we have put together so far. I have got a kick out of is that we have located several ex members that we had lost track of and also how many friendships that have been renewed since the site has been put together. I thought what a wonderful story it was that the Ladies A2 Pennant Winners of the early 70's, had a recent lunch together after about 38 years.
