PETER LAND

Your Name.....Peter Dennis Land

DOB.....04-01-1945

Place of Birth.....Brisbane Queensland

Where you first started playing Squash.....Boomerang

Your Fondest Memory of the time.....Just playing squash, just after I joined the club, I broke my arm, and it just about killed me not being able to play.

Your best achievement on court, as most of us wouldn't have won Open Titles or represented the State, maybe list some of your Pennant wins or Club Titles.....

Was in the winning team that won the Queensland A Grade Team Title in Townsville in 1975, won the A Grade Plate Event at the Milton annual Tournament, also was the winner of the Caloundra Open, both events would have been in the early 70's, I was undefeated for approximately 33 straight matches in 1964-65.

Below is a list of Successes I had at the Club both Tournaments and Pennant wins,

1964 won the 2nd Division of the Club Championships, and in 1965 was runner up to Ken Fraser in the Club Championships, in 1975 won the Plate event in the Club Open Handicap event.

Was successful in winning 6 Pennants over the years at the club, C6 in 1964 and C2 in 1964/65, 1965 Winter B1, 1968/69 A3, and in 1973 was part of the Side that won the A1 Pennant, my teammates were Ken Fraser, Bob Pareezer, and Ray Kettley.

Did you venture into administration or coaching or refereeing or managing teams or played Masters Squash.....

Yes, vice captain to Joe Williams for 9 years, also selector and with Joe selected 4 A1 Pennant Winning Teams. During this time I was also the Club Librarian, and was also part of the inaugural Group that started selling Raffle Tickets at both the Coronation and Terminus Hotels.

Who do you admire as the person who has either achieved great things on court or shaped the game off court.....

There a four that come to mind from the club, firstly Col Brandon Snr a great president. Joe Williams heart and soul of Boomerang in the early days, Wally Kwit epitomized what Boomerang was all about, and lastly but not least Mrs White for putting up with us.

Funniest moment you remember.....

We were in Toowoomba playing Squash, Peter Creevey and myself got stuck on the High steeled spiked fence at the back of the Court Hotel, we had left our keys in the Pub and Sam the 80 year old Publican heard us yelling out. He got a ladder and helped us down, and proceeded to get right up us, firstly for climbing the fence and secondly for climbing the fence drunk.

What are you doing now. As a lot of us would be now retired, list some facts about your working life.....

25 Years at Evans Deakin Group mostly in the sales area, which included a couple of stints at both Mackay and Townsville. Also worked for West Footscray Engineering and was a Sales Rep for A.I.D, now retired.

Did you get married, have kids..... No.

Anything else you think people might find interesting.....

My other sporting activities, included place getter Tugun Surf Club Championship Junior Belt race in 1961-62-63.

Ran 5 Half Marathons best time was 1 Hour 31 Minutes.

Also with Ken Fraser we did a small Residential Subdivision at Highgate Hill.

I'd like to take this opportunity to pen a couple of 4 line Limericks regarding my long distance road running which I enjoyed immensely

Reminicising

Now I am old and cannot run
I look back on what I have done
How I did it I do wonder
As I sit on my big fat bum and ponder.

Speculation.

I was 45 when I ran this race
I probably finished nearer to last than 1st place
It is a long way 21 Kilometers plus
Next time I will probably take a bus.
