MICK MULCAHY

Name: Michael (Mick) Mulcahy

D.O.B. 09/06/1941

Place of Birth: Warwick, Queensland

Where you first started playing Squash: Boomerang Squash Club

Your best achievement on court, as most of us would't have won Open Titles or represented the State, maybe list some of your Pennant Wins or Club Titles.

Won E1 1970/71. My Team Mates were Geoff Gebhard, Alan Griffiths, Jeff Seipel, Doug Loveday.

Won 1971/72 E3. My Teammates were Barry Winning, Frank Conlon, Frank Grisaffi, and Don Currie.

My best memory:

My best memory is playing up in B grade when Joe Williams asked me if I would at Wavell. I took the fellow to five - wasn't expected to win, but I think it helped the Boomerang team win on the night. The other thing I remember is that I was carted off to the PA Hospital one Sunday morning during practice after Brian Turnbull swung his racket around and caught me fair square on my glasses. (No plastic frames at that time) I spent two weeks in the dark but returned as soon as I was able to.

I played in E, D and C grades at times and thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club. I hope to get to Fishlovers Rosalie, one of these months to meet a few of the "old timers" and perhaps find out a few things about other members of the club.

Did you venture into administration or coaching or refereeing or managing teams or played Masters Squash?

I did not venture into refereeing or administration. (I did not know this side of it but would have been interested in it.)

Who do you admire as the person who has either achieved great things on court or shaped the game off court?

I think that all the A and B grade players achieved well just by reaching that level.

Did you get married, have kids?

I got married in 1971 to Sandra and we have two daughters- both married with children of their own.

What are you doing now? As a lot of us would be now retired, list some facts about your working life.

I retired in 2001 and we moved from Arana Hills to Petrie where we still live.
